EditSmart Client ArchitectureSmart client systems are a compelling option for many .NET applications, but they require changes to classic n-tier architecture. From handling state on the client to dealing with multiple data transport options, new architectural layers are needed to promote flexibility and speed of development. This webcast, presented from Tech·Ed 2005 in Orlando, Florida, discusses a layered architecture based on several real-world smart client systems, along with other best practices for doing distributed smart client systems. Techniques for componentizing logic on the client tier and thus reducing the amount of code necessary for a smart client UI are discussed and demonstrated.

Presenters: Billy Hollis; Rockford Lhotka, Principal Technology Evangelist, Magenic Technologies

EditSmart Client Offline Data Synchronization and CachingOne of the challenges of Smart Client development and operations is supporting disconnected operations. As soon as you allow your application to be used offline, a whole host of new considerations need to be addressed in your design. This webcast explores what those challenges are, what the available choices are to address them, and what the best techniques are for a variety of situations. Some of the options we will explore include the use of client-side DataSet caching, DataSet and business object caching through Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition, Queued Components, Web services, and the Offline Application Block. Find out what modifications are required to the architecture to support these different options. The webcast includes a demonstration of a multi-tiered application that is representative of the real world and utilizes the smart client architecture discussed in this webcast. Join us for this highly rated breakout session from Tech·Ed 2005 in Orlando, Florida, presented as CLI440.

Presenter: Bryan Noyes, Consultant, iDesign
