SQL Server 2005 contains many new features and enhancements that are quite helpful to the developer. This talk will cover two of these features the XML Data Type and Integration Services. With the XML Data Type, you can now simplify the development of applications that need to work with semi structured data. Additionally, Integration Services is a completely new version of DTS but with significantly more power, out of the box functionality, and extensibility. Come and find out more about these new SQL Server 2005 features and how they are being used in development today.
Nick will start with an overview of the new SSIS functionality including data transformation, looping, error handling, logging and how SSIS can be a helpful tool for other development tasks especially build management. I will also have an example of using SSIS for that dreadful data migration part of a project. |

Joe Shirey has been with Interlink since 1996. As Vice President and General Manager, he runs service and delivery for Interlink's largest market. Mr. Shirey is a Microsoft Regional Director, a Microsoft Certified Architect, a member of the Microsoft Architect Advisory Board, and sits on the .NET Partner Advisory Council. Previously, as Vice President of Software Solutions, he was responsible for the capabilities of the division, both in creating services that address the business needs of the marketplace and ensuring they are delivered in a high quality manner. Prior to this, Mr. Shirey managed an Interlink branch in Phoenix, providing leadership over the sales, delivery, and operations in the Arizona market and directed efforts in prospecting and targeting growth markets. In addition, he was responsible for turning the Arizona Branch into a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner. Mr. Shirey has more than fifteen years of hands-on technical and functional experience in project management, systems analysis, design, development, and implementation.
Nick VanMatre has been an Interlink consultant since 2003. As a Solutions Developer for Interlink, he works directly with the customer to provide custom solutions to meet their needs. He has developed numerous custom web and windows client applications using .NET technologies and SQL Server. He primarily focuses on .NET development and has been working with .NET 2.0 and SQL Server Integration Services since before their release. Prior to joining Interlink, Nick was a Senior Software Engineer and team and technical lead at Motorola. He has been in the industry since 1996 and brings a wide variety of expertise and ten years of experience to his clients. |

Our Presenter: Steve has been developing applications since 1984. His development background spans from accounting to insurance, to E911 call centers. A huge fan of .NET, he's also featured in the classic read "Dating Design Patterns" which exposed the myth that design patterns were created for software instead of cultivating relationships. Currently a sales engineer for ViaWest, he works with developers and organizations as they navigate to waters of complex managed hosting. Aside from technology, Steve loves snowboarding, ultimate frisbee, chocolate, Guinness, and making Greek food.
